classrooms vs.
Learning Spaces
There is a LOT of community buzz about NUMBER OF CLASSROOMS!
One thing we need to realize in modern educational facilities, is that not all learning is done in classrooms...
that's why there are a variety of learning spaces.

As long as there are Physical Education credits required, a gymnasium will be a learning space.
Science labs are learning spaces, too!
In the past, libraries were a hub for research...now with every student having Chromebooks, the Media Center is a learning space.
Auditoriums, shops, weight rooms, (etc.) are NOT conventional classrooms...
but they are learning spaces that classes will be held in.

Because we plan to customize a previously-used school footprint, we have seen many of these spaces in real life. We were impressed by the wide hallways, use of natural light, spacious classrooms, and gathering places to promote school comradery.

classrooms
Classrooms are just under
1,000 sqft so that they only have one door/entrance. Clasrooms will have fiber capabilities and ample storage. Many, but not all, classrooms will have natural light.

science labs
Our current SHS science labs are no longer up-to-date. They would work well for Middle School Dry Labs, but the high school labs need access to gas lines, fume hoods/ventilation, chemical storage, etc.

cafeteria
commons
The design for the cafeteria commons is a true gathering space. This space can be used for lunch, cheer/dance practice, lobby for the auditorium, and even school dances! (sound system on supporting columns)
Restrooms in the Commons Area can be used for events held in the auditorium OR the gymnasium.
We love the idea of not needing to rent other community spaces for our high school dances.

media center
Because of the changes in education, a huge library bursting with books is no longer necessary.
This media center does house a variety of books, digital resources, tables for group projects, and is perfect for meetings or tests.
