VOTE MAY 20TH!
auditorium
The Shelley community has not had a full-size auditorium
since May 2002 when Shelley Junior High burned down.
We are grateful for the SHS Little Theater which currently seats 200.

who would use an auditorium?
The proposed auditorium would have
main seating for 600.
It would have a large stage, improved acoustics, modern lighting,
and a fly system to move backdrops/scenery.
The proposed design utilizes the Commons Area as a lobby for the auditorium; rest rooms and concessions are nearby as well for use during productions.

There are many Shelley students who would use an auditorium:
drama department, band students, choir students, the orchestra,
dance team, etc.

The auditorium could also be used for class meetings, parent meetings, and community rentals.

Other perspective events: DARE graduation, Elementary Spring Concerts, Distinguished Young Woman, Workbase Academy Graduation, etc.

Vision
An auditorium would adequately reflect the hard-work and talent of the Fine Arts programs in the Shelley School District.

A band/choir/orchestra is generally better off performing in an auditorium than a gym because auditoriums are specifically designed with acoustics in mind, meaning the sound will be clearer, more evenly distributed, and less prone to echoes, while most gyms have hard surfaces that create excessive reverberation and poor sound quality for the audience. It would also not have the visual distractions of sport banners and hoops.

Theater productions could house larger audiences for fewer days, relieving pressure on cast members.
Currently the Spring Musical runs 8 nights.
The improved acoustics & lighting would showcase these students' efforts. Students could learn how to use modern tech systems behind the scenes to grow their theater knowledge.
